The Doe...
Walking through the woods today,
a movement caught my eye..
And peering through the undergrowth,
I saw a tawny hide..
And then I saw a gentle face,
with eyes that seem to glow..
Looking back, and straight at me,
was a wild, yet gentle Doe..
I caught my breath and held it tight,
did not want her yet to flee..
But she so calm, did not take flight..
with her deer-like intensity..
And then to my amazement,
her hoofs muffled by the earth..
She nuzzled soft, my open hand,
tentatively at first..
We both stood there in silence,
as sweet birdsong filled the sky..
I knew that there was wonder
cast between that Doe and I..
Such peace and love caressed my soul...
I caught in my throat, a sob..
For in Doe form, I knew that I,
had been touched by the hand of God.
